Doanes Park began as 22 acres in 1958. Through the years more land was added and the park was improved with baseball diamonds, playground equipment and water and electricity.
Founded about 1890, the cemetery was established for the coal miners. It has been alternately called Oakwood or Youngstown Cemetery until the town of Pleasant Hill took over maintenance. Oakwood Cemetery is now the accepted name.
The Pleasant Hill Fire Department acquired truck number two in 1962. When purchased, it was the most up-to-date truck available.
